Course overview

This short course is one of a series of short courses designed for medical and healthcare professionals, managers and leaders who aim to deliver value to their health service, organisation, and consumers through transformational change management.

With an emphasis on the future of health, the course offers tools, insight, and approaches around what it means to lead, engage, influence and relate with others in diverse health settings in readiness for planned or unplanned change. This course will also explore the integration of change management with your health service strategy and project management to ensure the management of change is conducted in a holistic sustainable manner.

Throughout the progression of this course, you will reflect on the implications of the future of health as you manage and lead change in the 21st century.

At the end of this course, you will be ready to prepare, facilitate, manage, and lead others through transformation and organisational change management covering people, process, technology and culture.

1:1 coaching is included in this short course for the application of learning back in the workplace, now and in the future. Places are limited!

 

Presenter

A/Prof Huong Le-Dao | UNSW Medicine & Health

Associate Professor Huong Le-Dao contributes to teaching, education and research in health management and leadership within the School of Population Health, UNSW Medicine & Health. She specialises in strategy, policy and change with a strong focus on project and change management, organisational effectiveness, and leadership development.

As Director of Short Courses within UNSW Medicine & Health, Huong leads our short courses, micro-nano credentials, and bespoke programs for health organisations to equip health professionals (clinicians and non-clinicians) with the needed capabilities and skills to boost their impact in health. Huong's work in credential education and training is shaping the health care system for the 21st century. She is passionate about better human experience and value in healthcare.

Medical and health care professionals, managers and leaders who aim to develop and increase knowledge and skills in managing and leading change at the individual, team, organisation, and system level for impactful stakeholder experience – including staff and consumers.

What are the course learning outcomes?

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify different types of transformational change impacting on healthcare systems and services.
  • Discuss and select targeted transformational change management approaches for your audience to adapt and implement transformation.
  • Assess the impact of change to influence design choices about the change process supporting a change within your health setting.
  • Employ stakeholder engagement tools to navigate emotions and respond to change resistance with resilience and confidence.
  • Apply tools to evaluate, reinforce and sustain change for realising benefits.
  • Devise a contemporary change management strategy for managing and leading planned or unplanned disrupted transformational change.

What are the course credentials?

   

This course is worth 3 UNSW Medicine & Health Executive Certificate in Health (FMECH) points, which provides formal recognition of professional development and reflects 30 hours of learning inclusive of pre-work, course participation, learning materials and support.

Upon successful course completion, you will be issued with a UNSW Medicine & Health verifiable credential. The credential is valid for 3 years and can be counted towards your continuing professional development (CPD). Please check with your college as the credential provides documentary evidence which substantiate activities claimed under your college program.

Can I use my credit towards further study?

You can partake in another short course with FMECH points to achieve a total 150 hours of learning. Once you have achieved a total of 15 points, reflecting 150 hours of learning, you can use the 15 points to apply for recognition of prior learning for 6 units of credit (UOC) towards a postgraduate program within UNSW Medicine & Health. It is essential to complete and submit the course assessment on or before the final day of the course if you wish to apply to use the points towards CPD and/or credit for a UNSW postgraduate program in the future.
